Sometimes it's all too easy to wander to our local offroad playgrounds for a fun day of fourwheeling. So we're always on the lookout for new areas to explore, especially somewhere that will appeal to our many members in the OKC area. Dana Giles was along on a trail ride to Seiling in August of '02, and will lead our group up there in April.

Dana says, "The landowner will ride with us as our official guide as he knows what property he actually owns :) It's always a good time out there...the terrain varies from dirt roads to steep rocky climbs... kind of unique climbs actually...the hills are solid bedrock, not loose gravel or dirt, consequently traction is abundant and street tires actually do quite well (not a lot of mud to be found). It's all very open terrain and the views are great. I certainly look forward to another trip out there.....we can tell those that are offroading for the first time that this area is ideal....if an ML320 can do it [last August], any Rover can :)."

Entrance Fee
As the event is being held on private land, we are required to pay a $10 admission fee per vehicle. We will collect this fee from each participant in the morning. This goes directly to the landowner on the day of the event.

Itinerary Details
We meet up in Canton. It's a tiny little town where the roads for all of us coming from different directions converge. There is a gas station (can't remember which brand, but there's only one) in Canton and we usually congregate there. 9:00am is the rendezvous time in Canton. The ranch isn't actually in Seiling proper. It's on the highway between Canton and Seiling. It's the Chain Ranch and it will be on the right several miles before reaching Seiling. You'll want to have a full gas tank leaving Canton as it's still a bit of a drive to the ranch, and then it's about a 20 minute drive from the ranch to the area we offroad...with no opportunity to re-fuel.

After a couple of hours of playing, we will break for a while for lunch. As usual it is a BYO (bring your own) lunch, and we look forward to some fun Rover chat over a sandwich, so bring your camping chairs.

The intention is to fourwheel into the late afternoon, and after a fun day head for home, or to the car wash to get rid of the Western Oklahoma red dirt.
